What are Prebiotics?

You’ve heard of probiotics, but how well do you know prebiotics?

Prebiotics are, in short, a food source for probiotics. They are a type of fiber that is easily metabolized and fermented by gut microflora. Once fermented, prebiotics form short-chain fatty acids that feed certain cells within your colon. They also help make protective mucus that lines the gut.  Prebiotics help maintain digestive health and regularity, help your body absorb calcium and phosphorus, support immune health and more.*

Sources of prebiotics include: chicory root, pea fiber, green bananas, cooked and cooled rice and pasta, onions, garlic and supplements.

We included prebiotic fiber in our Fiber+ Gummies and our Digest Gold® Fiber Cookies.
