Are There Different Types of Occasional Heartburn?
There are different types of occasional heartburn.* Sometimes, a problem food like spicy chili or tangy citrus is the culprit. Other times, low stomach acid may be to blame.
How can you tell the difference? Keeping a food journal can be helpful. In a note on your phone or a notebook, jot down what you ate and how you felt after.
Please note: You should always start by talking to your health-care provider.
However, these may be signs of low acid:
- Occasional bloating, burping or heartburn within a half-hour of eating.
- Feeling “full” almost as soon as you’re done eating.
- Fingernails that are weak or prone to peeling and cracking.
