The Science

What Are Enzymes?

Enzymes are biologically active proteins found in all living cells. Metabolic enzymes catalyze and regulate every biochemical reaction that occurs within the human body, making them essential for cellular function and overall health. Digestive enzymes turn the food we eat into energy which may be utilized by the body for various biological processes. Our bodies naturally produce both digestive and metabolic enzymes, as they are needed.

Thera-blend

Using cutting-edge formulations, in 1998 Enzymedica introduced Thera-blendTM to the industry. Thera-blend is a proven technology for blending multiple strains of enzymes, shown to be far superior in potency over competing brands. To learn more about Thera-blend watch our video.

Measuring Enzyme Activity

Specializing in enzyme assays, the Enzymedica Lab (EL) tests each batch of product for enzyme activity. Enzymes are best measured not by their weight but by determining their potential to break down a substrate. This is usually expressed in the form of active units as a measure of potency.

For years we have devoted ourselves to perfecting procedures and methodologies for validating and enhancing enzyme potency. EL uses methodologies published from the Food Chemical Codex (FCC), a compendium of standards used internationally for establishing the quality and purity of food ingredients. By using these recognized assay procedures we ensure that the methodology utilized can be reproduced to verify accuracy and legitimacy.
